The new single from BEAUTY IN CHAOS ft. JULIAN SHAH-TAYLER!

It’s been a long winter and spring has entered into the fray with unpredictable climatic conditions, no matter what end country, continent or hemisphere you may be in. With all this unpredictability, elements of our lives that we can count on as being a “sure thing” are more appreciated than ever. One of them happens to be the musical output of LA-based collective Beauty In Chaos – always regular, always great, always different than everything they have released previously, always with a new vocalist. And always interesting.

Curated by Michael Ciravolo, we see a new frontier open for BIC into the world of glam-rock (OK maybe we say this genre explored earlier when joined by Marc Bolan’s son Rolan and also The Mission’s Wayne Hussey for their rendition of “Twentieth Century Boy”. We have the pleasure of introducing you to the band’s new single “Kiss Me (Goodbye)” featuring British LA-based artist Julian Shah-Tayler on vocals and Pete Parada (Face To Face, The Offspring) on drums.

Memorable, whimsical, danceable and impeccably performed, this fab new offering just gets better due to the existence of a superb video, filmed and directed by Vicente Cordero of Industrialism Films. Don’t let the MBV-esque opening chords of the song fool you – here we have a balanced pleasurable mix of the easily accessible classic pop of Prefab Sprout and Aztec Camera, woven together with the infectious allure of early Smashing Pumpkins and The Mission UK. Also wait until after the 3-minute mark when Bowie-eque threads will give you goosebumps.

With Grammy nominated BIC cohort Michael Rozon in the producer’s chair, “Kiss Me” packs a bit more glam and post-rock power than the collective’s latest Behind The Veil album, yet BIC curator Michael Ciravolo’s trademark goth-gaze textures dance in and around the song’s infectious melody and chord structure.

Michael Ciravolo explains, “Julian had done a handful of wonderful re-envisions for us over the last two albums, which led me to listening to his fantastic solo work. I felt he had an entirely unique voice and captivating stage presence, so I jumped at the chance to work with him on a song! Vicente has done so many of our videos, it is almost second-nature for us when filming. He is very aware of how adamant I am that each video is different from its predecessor. I was drawn to this video location, and just wanted to go in and have fun in the multiple ‘locations’ we had at our disposable there. And, of course in true BIC artistry, this is way different than the almost mini-movie script I handed Vicente for our latest single “Bloodletting”. It was Julian’s idea to weave in an ever so slight story line at the end.”

Julian Shah-Tayler, known for his electro rock new wave ‘intellipop’, has pursued a luminous path involving collaboration, performance, writing and production for the likes of David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets), music industry icon Alan McGee, Joaquin Phoenix and Antony Langdon (Spacehog), Siobhan Fahey (Bananarama, Shakespears Sister) and legendary producer Robert Margouleff (Stevie Wonder, Devo).

Having considerable success in TV and film (including for Disney’s ‘Maleficent’), he received a Golden Trailer award for his work with Lana Del Ray on the movie’s trailer and has also had his music performed at the Oscars. When he is not writing and recording original material or producing other arists, Julian Shah-Tayler is selling out venues with his Depeche Mode tribute band Strangelove.

“I’m honoured to collaborate with Michael on this excellent song. I loved the track from first listen and found it meshed perfectly with my aesthetic. Romantic and slightly dark, without straying too far into the irretrievable goth realm,” says Julian Shah-Tayler.

“We both decided we wanted it to be more than just a band-performance video. Since the lyrics are about the dissolution of a relationship, it felt appropriate to me to bring in the exquisite Eva Strangelove – burlesque dancer and my lissome love – to play the role of my temptress and heart wrecker in an improvised sci-fi Lynchian narrative of loss and rejection.”

lyrics

KISS ME (GOODBYE)
(Shah-Tayler, Rozon, Ciravolo)

Tried to swim but we both drowned
Heading for the sacred ground
We got lost in what we found
We’ve seen better days
You drive me crazy
Want me to thank you for the pain?

There was a time when you and me
Were trapped in the same dirty sheets
Driven together by the scene
Now you drive me crazy
I miss those better days
You’re the splinter in my brain – what a shame

Kiss me goodbye we’ll let it burn
Kiss me goodbye we’ll never turn it back
Kiss me goodbye we’ll watch it tumbling down
Kiss me goodbye.

I’ve given up on trying to find
The lost Angels from my sky
Looks like everyone took flight
Oh you made me crazy
So we tear it all down
And send out the clowns

Kiss me goodbye we’ll let it burn
Kiss me goodbye we’ll never turn it back
Kiss me goodbye we’ll send it tumbling down
Kiss me, Kiss me goodbye.

Everything is on the right side
Everything will turn out fine
Everything is on the bright side
Everything is on fire

Kiss me goodbye we’ll let it burn
Kiss me goodbye we’ll never turn it back
Kiss me goodbye we’ll watch our world in flames
Kiss me, kiss me goodbye.
